Dawn was always creative, starting out as a young girl crocheting with her fingers and making hair ribbons to sell to her classmates as well as writing numerous short stories; but it wasn’t until much later that she discovered her real passion for jewelry making after a stringing class at the University of Cincinnati after which she had a beautiful necklace and a pair of earrings.
Dawn has been working as a public relations and marketing professional for the last 19 years, currently handling community relation for an urban school district of over 33,000 students and 56 schools. When she is not working, she loves hanging out with family and friends and her furry baby, a 3 year old Rottweiler named Shaka Zulu. She loves to find time to read as well as learning everything she can about the jewelry business! She found herself drawn to wire wrapping and coiling wire and soon created a specialty in amazing cocktail rings which mix the look of industrial with dainty beauty of beads.
After her introduction to jewelry making class, Dawn found herself obsessed with the process and proceeded to read online tutorials as well as magazines on the subject. While she began only making pieces for herself and family and friends, she soon found herself with too many pieces to wear languishing in her design room! Her friends encouraged her to start selling her work, but she was concerned that by turning her creativity into a business she would lose the passion. After a time, she finally took the leap and Junebug Jewelry was born and she found her fear never came to pass but has continued to grow. Dawn not uses her marketing experience to promote her own work. Her goal it to eventually make Junebug Jewelry her full time profession, but in the meantime, Dawn continues to grow and learn.
Dawn encourages others to follow their own dreams of joining in selling their own handmade work but cautions that it is hard work and one must understand that marking will take as much time as creating the work itself. She understands that some see marketing as time away from their craft, but Dawn knows that it is time well spent and believes that word of mouth is the best marketing there is!
